Thesis template with LaTeX
Today, I will publish the template used for my thesis, it has been updated with the new glossaries package, cleaned and well commented. I think that it is still useful to writing this type of document and others and at the same time it contains some stimulus for reflection for whom is starting to elaborate complex books with table of contents, glossary and bibliography.
Introduction
My thesis follows Italian typography rules and conventions, besides the encoding is set to latin1. So, I leave the template into Italian, but you can adapted it to other languages.
If you have to write a long document using LaTeX, I suggest you a good editor like TeXmaker that gives you a satisfactory spell-checking and shortcut keys to configure labels (SHIFT + F1 ... F10) and user commands (ALT + SHIFT F1 ... F10). For a list, here is Comparison of TeX editors.
The template
In tesi.tex file I included packages.sty (that contains all the packages and style used) and the files of all the sections that describe the document in the following folders:
- frontmatter, contains:
- frontespizio.tex
- ringraziamenti.tex
- sommario.tex
- indici.tex
- glossario.tex
- simboli.tex
- capitoli: a folder for every chapter (inside there is capitolo.tex and 2 folders for figure and table), the same for the appendices..
- backmatter contains only bibliografia.tex
In this manner I adopted a modular approach, in order to focus on the single chapter or file, to reduce the compilation time and to find quickly the errors. Here is tesi.tex:

I found many Italian typography rules and conventions in this Saper Comunicare report, whereas some tips and guides in the following sites:
- GuIT - Gruppo utilizzatori Italiani di TeX e LaTeX
- LaTeX Community - TeX and LaTeX Forum and Resources
- How to combine Acronym and Glossary, consulting recently because I needed to upgrade the glossary package (still abandoned) to the new glossaries one.
I put all in Template_tesi.zip but in My thesis template for LaTeX now freely editable online with Overleaf, there is the updated version. Here instead you can consult my complete and final thesis.
